The Petronas Sprinta Racing team is pleased to announce that Xavi Virginie will continue to ride with the team next year, in the 2 Moto2021 World Championship.

The Spanish driver joined the team for the 2020 season and has made progress with each race. His best result of the season came at the recent San Marino Grand Prix, where he finished fourth and gave his Petronas Sprinta Racing team their best Moto2 result to date. At the final event, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, he even took the race lead before and after a rain red flag interruption, then fought for his first Moto2 podium of 2020 before to be put offside after contact with Marcel Schrötter.

This very good performance is obviously no stranger to the extension of his contract for a period of one year.

Xavi Virginie made his Moto2 debut with Tech3 at the 2015 Grand Prix of the Americas held in Indianapolis, before joining the category full-time in 2016, winning the Rookie of the Year title. In six years of competing in Moto2, Xavi has achieved three podiums (third in Australia 2018, second in Japan 2017 and Argentina 2018), two pole positions (Argentina 2018 and 2019) and two fastest laps (Argentina and Czech Republic). 2018).

Xavi Verge : " Thank you so much to the team for believing in me and keeping me for another year, I'm so happy! As soon as I arrived, I felt very comfortable with the whole team and my team; that's one of the reasons why I want to continue with them. Moto2 is a difficult category and I think staying with the same team, the same bike and the same team will be crucial for us. This year, even though it's a strange season, we have progressed with each race, getting closer to our goals and if we continue like this next year, it will be incredible. We made some mistakes, but we learn from them and improve for the future. For now our goal remains the same: to be in the top five in every race, to fight for podiums and victories, and then we will see how we can finish this championship. Of course it will be the same next year, but we want to be in the leading group at every race to fight for the championship. »

Johan Stigefelt, Team Director: “ I'm really happy to continue with Xavi in Moto2, because we've seen the progress he's made since joining the team. It is important that he can continue with the same configuration for a second year. It's also great for the team to keep a driver like which ones to work on from the start. We have a lot of hope for Xavi in the future and it's a pleasure to be able to continue with him. Thank you to everyone involved and our partners for believing in this program, and let's see what we can achieve in 2021. »
