The Estrella Galicia team comprising Enea Bastianini and Aron Canet didn't really have a successful 2017 season. While Honda dominated everything, with its riders occupying the first 7 places in the general classification, the Italian is a lowly sixth with 130 points – 191 behind Joan Mir – and the Spaniard third with 192.

Canet had a good second season in Grands Prix, after finishing fifteenth last year. To his credit this year two pole positions (Texas and Germany), a total of 6 front rows, and three victories at Jerez, Assen and Silverstone. Bastianini finished second at Silverstone, and third in Aragon and Sepang.

For 2018, Canet is renewed, while bastianini will go to Leopard Racing, the reigning champion team with Mir. He will be replaced by a total Grand Prix beginner within the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team – Marc VDS – Monlau Repsol Technical School, Alonso Lopez.

Alonso Lopez (born 21/12/2001) is currently competing in the FIM CEV Repsol with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 junior team, where he is fighting for second place in the standings. Currently, he is fourth in the overall standings, with 102 points while his teammate Jeremy Alcoba is in second place.

Alonso Lopez's current CEV teammates at Estrella Galicia 0,0 Jeremy Alcove and Sergio Garcia will continue next year in the FIM CEV Repsol Championship as part of the same structure. Alcoba's goal will be to fight for the Moto3 Junior World Champion title in 2018

Alonso Lopez's career to date:

– He started riding motorcycles at the age of three and competed in the Madrid Motocross Championship at age six.

– At nine years old, he changed discipline and began participating in the Madrid minimoto championship.

Alonso lopez :

“I am very happy with the opportunity that the Estrella Galicia team gave me to participate in the world championship with them. My current goal is to fight for second place in the FIM CEV Repsol in the last two races at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in a few weeks. I will fight to get second place as a “gift” to my team for the trust they have placed in me to learn and continue to grow as a rider in the World Championship next season. »

Emilio Alzamora, team manager:

“We are very happy to be able to announce that Alonso Lopez will be part of the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team next year, which will give him the opportunity to participate in the World Championship as a teammate of Aron Canet. Alonso has come through our structure, spending time within the school team, becoming a Spanish PreMoto3 champion and moving up to the junior team in 2016. It is very positive to see our local riders making the most of the opportunities given to them and, thanks to their constant effort, continue to progress through the categories. We believe Alonso has a lot of talent, maturity and the ability to take this step. He is having a very good year in FIM CEV Repsol, he is working hard, he is progressing race after race and we think it is time for him to continue to grow at World Championship level. Nevertheless, at this moment we must prioritize the end of the FIM CEV Repsol season, in which Alonso is fighting with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 junior team for second place in the Moto3 Junior World Championship. »
