The Sky Racing Team VR46 rider sees the years slip by and hopes to relaunch this year thanks to his close connection with the team and the VR46 Riders Academy.

Andrea Migno is now one of the longest-serving riders in Moto3, having arrived in the championship in 2013 for two wildcards, then in 2014 for the last seven races of the season to replace Arthur Sissis, ousted from the Mahindra team. Five and a half seasons later, the Italian driver is still in the category with a journey of ups and downs.

With a victory, five podiums and two pole positions on the clock, Migno was not unworthy and was able to show his talent on several occasions but his great irregularity did not allow him to do better than ninth in the final classification, in 2017. returning to the Sky VR46 team this year, he finally hopes to fight regularly at the front, although the very first race of the season did not do him too well with a 16th place finish.

“[You have to hurry in Moto3 because the years go by quickly, and] now it's even worse because I'm getting older (laughs). The years pass faster. I am personally convinced of my qualities and I know that I am in an ambitious team, which is considered one of the top teams in the category. The goal is to be strong and achieve results”, he told the Italian site GP One, while maintaining his legendary good humor.

Fortunately, he can count on the support of the VR46 Riders Academy, of which he has been a part since the beginning, to help him find this balance in his results. “The beautiful thing about the Academy is that a personal relationship is created and friendships are born as a result”, he added. “So I am surrounded by fast drivers, even if I would like there to be young people like Di Giannantonio or Bastianini. »

Recently, some pilots decided to leave the Valentino Rossi Academy to strike out on their own, which left room for possible internal disagreements. From Migno's point of view, it's just a matter of differences of vision: “To be honest, I only found out shortly before it was made official. What I can say is that it was a decision shared by the VR46 and the drivers, because Balda [Lorenzo Baldassarri, editor's note] and [Nicolò] Bulega had different requirements. Perhaps because of their way of life. That doesn't take away from the fact that they can do good things on their own. »
