The Del Conca Gresini team leaves Argentina both satisfied and a little disappointed. If Fabio Di Giannantonio went for his first podium of the season, Jorge Martín did not make the right choice of tires at the right time, which penalized him subsequently.

Jorge Martín had a complicated race. The favorite for the title had, however, had a good weekend, as usual. In the top ten throughout the free sessions, he then qualified ninth. Not worried about getting back into the lead once the start was given, the Spaniard had to be a protagonist of the race, as usual. However, he and his team decided to change the rain tires for slick tires at the last moment, making him leave the pit lane, well after everyone else: “The day was complicated. We chose to change tires in the pit lane and lost a lot of time, but we were very competitive and I managed to recover a lot of places. »

From last he moved up to eleventh, proof that the choice of slick tires was the right one. Unfortunately, this decision came too late to be able to play in front: “If we had chosen slick tires on the grid, I would have probably won by a margin. »

Number 88 still remains second in the World Championship and is not discouraged: " These are things that happen. In Austin we won't go wrong. »

On the other hand, his teammate Fabio DiGiannantonio can be happy! He, who had returned frustrated from Qatar, finally achieved his podium goal. After a rather discreet start to the weekend on Friday, he took the lead in FP3 on Saturday morning before qualifying in sixth position in the afternoon.

In the first group from the first turns of the race, he knew how to stand out and not get stuck in the pack. After fighting hard for second place, he finally finished third, a result which did not completely satisfy him: “I'm half happy because maybe we could do a little better. The objective was to attack from the start since we started with wet tires, like Bezzecchi, but we got stuck in a group behind. I played my cards, but the pilots in my group were a little crazy and it wasn't easy, the contact with Masia was predictable..."

The Italian driver, however, remains lucid and motivated for the future: “In the last lap I gave everything to pass Canet, but unfortunately I didn't succeed. Step by step we will get there. »
