Ayumu Sasaki qualified on pole for the third time in Moto3 with Germany 2019 and the Dutch TT earlier this year, where he took his first victory in the category. He will be looking to reach the podium in four successive Moto3 races for the first time. Only two riders have won in Moto3 at Phillip Island after qualifying on pole: Sandro Cortese (2012) and Brad Binder (2016), both riding a KTM.

Third in the Championship, Sergio Garcia qualified in second position, which is only the fourth time since the start of the year that he has qualified in the top three with Argentina (pole and won the race), Spain ( qualified second and finished P2) and Japan (qualified third). He will aim for victory for the first time since Italy.

The recruit Ivan Ortola qualified third, which is the first time he has qualified in the top three. His best result in Moto3 so far is the P6 obtained in Aragon. After passing Q1, Carlos Tatay qualified in fourth position, which is the fifth time since the start of the year that he has qualified in the top six. He will try to get on the podium for the second time in his GP career, after Indonesia this year (P3).

Diogo Moreira qualified in fifth position, marking the eighth time in his rookie season that he has qualified in the top six. His best result in Moto3 so far is P6, achieved six times, including the last two races.

The leader of the championship, Izan Guevara, qualified in seventh position, which is the eighth time this year that he has failed to qualify among the top six. He must score 2 points more than Dennis Foggia, do not concede more than 6 points to Sergio Garcia and not to lose points and 20 to Ayumu Sasaki to become 2022 Moto3 World Champion this Sunday.

Second in the Championship, Dennis Foggia qualified in 12th position, equaling his worst qualifying result since the start of the season in Portugal. He will attempt to achieve back-to-back Moto3 victories for the second time in the category after the Aragon/San Marino double last year.
