Ayumu Sasaki secured pole position for the Australian Grand Prix in the Moto3 category, the 16th stage of the 2023 MotoGP championship scheduled to take place at Phillip Island. The Team Intact GP rider took his Husqvarna to the top with the best lap in 1'36.539, achieving the eighth pole of the season and the ninth front row, where we also find Joel Kelso (CFMoto PruestelGP) and Stefano Nepa (KTM MTA), separated by 0,136 s and 0,216 s respectively.

Second line for Diogo Moreira (KTM MT Helmets -MSI, winner in Mandalika), for Matteo Bertelle (Honda Snipers) and Collin Veijer (Husqvarna Intact GP). Seventh beat and third line for Deniz Oncu (KTM Red Bull Ajo), who will have at his side David Alonso (GASGAS Aspar) and Adrian fernandez (Honda Leopard). Vicente Perez who replaces the injured Ana Carrasco within the BOE KTM Team is tenth, ahead Daniel Holgado (KTM Tech3) and Ivan Ortola (KTM MTA).

The leader of the world championship, James Masia, Honda Leopard, is only thirteenth. Filippo Farioli (KTM Tech3) finished 16th, while Riccardo rossi (Honda SIC58 Squadra Corse) finished 18th.  We recall the penalties imposed on Xavier Artigas (start from the back of the grid and double long lap penalty), David Munoz (double long lap penalty), Kaito Toba (start from the back of the grid and double long lap penalty) and Joshua Whatley (start from the bottom of the grid and penalty for long lap).
