Moto3 Austria P1: Daniel Holgado reminds who is the boss

Will he be able to hit the nail on the head in this P1 Moto3 in Austria? At Silverstone, David Alonso (GasGas Aspar Team) made history. By starting from last position, the Colombian rookie became the first native of his country to win in Grands Prix, and in style. Even if all eyes are on him, the headliners remain more than serious candidates. Starting with Ayumu Sasaki (Husqvarna Liqui Moly Intact GP), who remains on three consecutive second places, and is also in this position in the championship. Still behind the unbeatable Daniel Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3), who takes advantage of his consistency, although he has already reached the highest step of the podium three times this season.

Behind, and despite its poor performance at Silverstone, Jaume Masia (Honda Leopard Racing) remains a permanent danger. Even if the sky is cloudy for the moment, the track should remain dry for the duration of the session. As is often the case here, cancellations of laps rain in from the start of the session. Ryusei Yamanaka (GasGas Aspar Team), author of a good first round, is the first victim; During this weekend, drivers will have to be careful where they place their wheels.

 

 

Quickly, David Muñoz (KTM Boé Motorsports) is positioned at the top. Despite a pole at Assen, the Spanish prodigy remains relatively discreet this season, notably due to a major injury at Jerez. Then, there is another hope, in the person of Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Garlic) which occupies the lead, briefly however. The one we expected to be a “Pedro Acotsesque” sensation because of his track record in the promotion categories is not transcendent for a rookie season, but he is still young. It remains to be monitored.

David Alonso started well, and definitely stole the show as a rookie.

As usual, the leaders follow one another at a pace that is very difficult to follow. To note that Diogo Moreira (KTM MT Helmets Msi) is there, he who has been relatively discreet since the start of the 2023 financial year.

The session is extremely calm, and with less than ten minutes to go, still no falls to report! Perhaps we are carrying bad luck, since Riccardo rossi (Honda Sic58 Squadra Corsica) just found his way to the gravel trap just now. Then, right after, it's his teammate Kaito Toba which in turn falls! Briefly, Roman Fenati (Honda Snipers Team) takes the best position.

 

 

Daniel Holgado restored order, with the first lap under 1'42. He finished this first session in the lead. He is ahead Jaume Masia et Ivan Ortoláas Jose Antonio Rueda fourth point.
