A little less comfortable than in previous GPs, the Aspar team driver was content with a top 5 at the Styrian Grand Prix, which allows him to remain at the head of the championship even if he prefers not to not aim for this objective for the moment.

Albert Arenas establishes himself Grand Prix after Grand Prix as the strong man of the Moto3 category with metronome regularity and a racing strategy which allows him to always be in the leading group and make his final attacks to finish on the podium. Leader of the championship since the first race, he was able to maintain his lead.

So far, his results speak for him with three victories and a second place. Only his blank result at Jerez 2 tarnished the whole, especially since he suffered a sprained ankle, but the impact was ultimately minimal with a victory in the following race.

Last weekend, during the Styrian Grand Prix, he did not manage to dominate as much as usual and finished off the podium for the first time this season, although with a fifth place to boot. .

“We finished the race in fifth position and that’s a positive result considering the race”, did he declare. “I had to fight a lot and I didn't have the same weapons as in the other races but we knew how to fight. This year we didn't know what it was like to finish outside the podium, now we do and we continue to learn. I'm happy because it ended well. »

Faced with the mixed results of his main opponents in the championship (fall for John McPhee and seventh place for Tatsuki Suzuki, in addition to Ai Ogura's penalty the previous week), Arenas ultimately only conceded three points and benefits now 25 points ahead of second, a victory.

A major advantage which, added to his consistency, places him as favorite for the title. However, the Spaniard refuses to think about it so as not to lose concentration: “At the moment I don't want to think about the championship, I didn't do it during the race either because otherwise I would have finished further back. »
