Moto3 Catalonia Barcelona P2: David Alonso performs magic tricks

The P2 Moto3, in Catalonia, is a critical moment. This is the last session during which the top 14 drivers can qualify directly for Q2. The others will have to go through a cleaver Q1. One was not worried before the start of this decisive session: David Alonso (CFMoto Aspar Team). As since the start of the season, he dominated the FP as well as the P1, with a new lap record to boot. Can he win a second consecutive Grand Prix two weeks after Le Mans? Everything has to be done. Behind, the young José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) is still there, like Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Aspar Team), championship leader. This session begins, once again, under bright sunshine. Drivers should not wait to get into shape.

 

 

Times are very fast: Ivan Ortola et David munoz (KTM Boé Motorsports) are immediately in 1'47, without waiting. Alonso is not far away, but nothing has been done yet. The pilots, for the moment, are not quite on the attack.

 

 

Daniel Holgado, in 21st position, is not well placed but could reveal himself during the last qualifying laps, as he did yesterday. He tries to help his teammate Jacob Roulstone, like yesterday, to get better times.

 

 

It works, sinceholgado quickly reached the top 5. Great performance fromAngel Piqueras, rookie at Honda Leopard Racing. Joel Kelso (KTM Boé Motorsports) must hurry to make a significant time, because he is still not in Q2 six minutes from the end. Besides, for the moment, Ivan Ortola stands firm against David Alonso ! Perhaps this is the end of a long series of sessions dominated by the Colombian?

That said, the best time remains to the credit of the latter. But be careful Jose Antonio Rueda, out of nowhere, who takes the best position, and with the lap record to boot! It is not finished. He had no aspirations, which makes his performance remarkable. David Alonso responds instantly, with a time faster than six tenths! It's incredible. And he improves again in the next round! 

 

 

No one can go get him. José Antonio Rueda is second, deserving, whileIvan Ortola fails in third place. Daniel Holgado is relegated to 22nd place, but fortunately, his time yesterday allows him to reach Q2.

It heats up in the last lap! David Almansa (Honda Snipers Team) is guilty of an action which greatly penalizes the rookie Xabi Zurutuza (Red Bull KTM Garlic), and without a doubt, will be penalized.
