The Italian pilot spoke with GP One about his excellent 2018 season and the one that awaits him, among the favorites for the title.
Very discreet pilot, Lorenzo Dalla Porta nevertheless finished 2018 in fifth place in the Championship thanks to his four podiums and his victory at Misano, the very first of his career. Excellent results for a second season in the category: “2018 was a great year, except the beginning. The goal was to be among the top five in the final ranking and we achieved it. Perhaps we could have done better but I think the season was positive. She gave me confidence in myself. The year before I had encountered a lot of difficulties but now I feel that I am myself again. »
Back in the Leopard team in 2019, he is clearly expected at the forefront, now that the first four to finish ahead of him in 2018 (Jorge Martín, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi and Enea Bastianini, editor's note) have moved to Moto2. This was already his objective last year and it will be again this year: “Being in front is what we want, whether it's me or the team, so we will do everything to be as much as possible. The conditions to fight with the best are there so I am confident. »
However, Moto3 remains very unpredictable and no one can know who will ultimately come out on top: “I think we will see the same ones as usual, like Canet or Arbolino. However, in Moto3, everything is possible. Sometimes there are very large groups and sometimes not so many. Some drivers will obviously be at the forefront but there is no shortage of surprises in this category. »
The purpose of the title is in the mind of the young Italian, despite the arrival of Marcos Ramírez in the team: “He’s a fast driver like many others. We have already carried out a first test together and I don't think there will be any problems with the harmony in the box. I don't want to project too much but I think playing the title is possible. I've already known the team for a year and they know me, we understand each other and that's very important. In addition, the bike will remain the same and that is another positive point. All that remains is to wait for the first test and leave fully charged. »
And if the 2019 season goes well, Dalla Porta will be in the lead move to Moto2 : “That would be the idea, I think.” The upcoming season will be my third in the category in Moto3 so if things go well it would be good and possible to move up. »
