It was once again near Jerez that Darryn Binder and Maximilian Kofler met last weekend for the Andalusian Grand Prix.

For this third meeting of the season in the face of high temperatures, the two representatives of the CIP – GREEN POWER team were keen to take their revenge after the Spanish Grand Prix on the same track.

As usual, Darryn Binder made a spectacular comeback from 25th place on the grid. The South African fought his way through the peloton to move up to eighth position on the fourth lap. In the leading group, he then fought for victory until the last lap.

Hindered by a driver who should have submitted to a “long lap” penalty, Darryn Binder was not able to attack the leaders to try to secure the podium. Author of the third fastest lap in the race, he crossed the finish line in fifth place, but due to the sanction imposed on his opponent, he was ultimately credited with fourth position, his best result since the Argentine Grand Prix last year.

For his part, Maximilian Kofler continued his progress. The race having been faster than during the Spanish Grand Prix, the Austrian was also faster, clocking in at 20 seconds behind the winner, compared to 28 seconds the previous week. Building on this performance, he intends to continue his momentum near Brno in a few days.

Darryn Binder (4th) : " After a difficult first weekend, this second Grand Prix in Jerez went much better. I'm still having some difficulty getting closer to the front in qualifying, but I finished first in the warm-up. In races, I am always able to fight for victory. I gave everything in the last lap to try to finish on the podium, but due to a driver, although sanctioned, who got in front of me, I did not succeed. On the way back, I wore out my tires a lot. Starting from the front rows would have helped me a lot, but we finished fourth and that bodes well for the future. We must now be quick in all the sessions and continue this momentum from the next meeting in Brno. »

Maximilian Kofler (18th) : “The weekend started with a big crash at turn 11 in FP1, but I escaped unscathed. In FP2, we worked well on the race pace. In qualifying, I was fast, but I ended up setting the 24th fastest time. The race was harder than the previous week, but we were faster, gaining almost 16 seconds between the two weekends. 18th is my best result to date in Grand Prix, we are getting closer to the points and that is our goal. »

Alain Bronec (Team Owner) : “Daryn had another fantastic race. He started from 25th place to move up to third position. This race was almost seven seconds faster than the previous week despite similar temperature. The track conditions were difficult, but he managed to always be at the front to finish fourth. For us, it's the start of the season and we will have to continue like this in Brno. As for Maximilian, he finished 20 seconds behind the winner while he was 28 seconds the previous week. This confirms good progress. We have to stay focused and try to be more incisive during qualifying. »
