About Diana Tamantini / Corsedimoto

The Turkish rider is one of the rookies of the year in Moto3 and has great ambitions for his first season at world level, with the hope of returning to the track soon.

Deniz Oncu is making its debut this year in the smallest of the categories. After a few wildcards and replacements in 2019, here he is finally the starting driver in the Red Bull KTM Tech 3 team. Champion of the Asian Talent Cup in 2017 and vice-Champion of the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2018, the 17-year-old driver has started very well in Qatar by taking 12th place and thus scoring his first points. All eyes are on him, and not only in Turkey, where he arouses great interest.

This is shared between him and his twin brother Can (who moved to the Supersport World Championship this year) as well as Toprak Razgatlioglu who rides in WorldSBK, all three being protégés of the five-time WorldSSP World Champion, Kenan Sofuoglu. The work is starting to bear fruit and Turkey's interest in motorcycling has clearly increased.

“Interest in motorcycle sport is growing, now everyone knows the MotoGP and Superbike champions”, Deniz Öncü told Maximilian Wendl for the German site speedweek. However, the championships are currently all stopped due to the health crisis: “We all miss it, it’s our life. I have been training at home every day to stay in shape, I want to be ready when it starts again. I hope to readjust quickly, I want to stay close to the best. »

His goal is to do better than his twin brother, who had a difficult season in Moto3 with only three results in the top 15, in addition to three missed races due to injury. Despite this, he recognizes that “Can is much faster than me. I would like to have his ability to quickly adapt to a motorcycle, it would be easier for me. » In the meantime, he is patient: “This sport is my life. I hope the break ends soon. »
