The Aspar riders fought a step-by-step battle throughout the race against their KTM rivals, Deniz Öncü and Jaume Masiá. Garcia takes off in the championship after the disappointment of Foggia, only 18th in the event.

At the start, it was championship leader Sergio Garcia who beat his teammate pole sitter Izan Guevara to take the holeshot and take the lead at the first corner. Behind them, Jaume Masiá managed to stay in third position while Diogo Moreira catapulted from ninth place on the grid to fourth!

The start of 22 frenzied laps, marked as usual in Moto3 by multiple changes of leader. Masiá thus took the lead on the sixth lap after taking advantage of the fratricidal fight between the two Aspar drivers. The resident of the Red Bull KTM team Ajo also saw another KTM rider, but playing for Tech3, namely Deniz Öncü, getting involved in the fight for first place.

The Turk, author of the best time during the warm-up, subsequently confirmed that he had a very solid race pace since he held the rope at the head of the race until the last cables, at the forefront of a group including no less than six contenders for victory (Xavier Artigas and Ayumu Sasaki joining the festivities in addition to the two KTM riders and the two Aspar riders).

But the victory was played out well between the two KTMs and the two Aspars, the four men arriving almost four abreast in turn 6 “Dani Pedrosa”. But it was ultimately the pole sitter Guevara who had the last word in the last turn "Jorge Lorenzo" by overtaking his opponents to win in front of his teammate.

Among the retirements, we can note that of Carlos Tatay from the fourth lap. Too bad for the Spaniard who qualified in tenth position and seemed able to show a good pace in the race, just like Tatsuki Suzuki, victim of a fall four laps later.

Condemned to perform a long lap, excluding him, so to speak, from the fight for victory even before the start of the race, Riccardo Rossi for his part led a deserving start to the event by leading the second group, before also falling in the second part of the race.

We will also note the poor performance of Dennis Foggia. Qualified in fourth position on the grid, the Italian seemed to be off to a good start at first before collapsing in terms of pace and finishing this Spanish GP in a distant 18th place. A very unwelcome result outside the points for the number 2 in the championship, who lost 20 points to Garcia and now finds himself relegated to 21 points in the general classification.
