The manager of the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team spoke about how his team managed the crisis and how it adapted to gradually return to normal in its workshops.

How are the teams experiencing this unprecedented period in practice? How can we advance the preparation of equipment and motorcycles and ensure that everyone remains focused when such a long, totally unusual break disrupts everyone's work? Jaime Serrano, manager of the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team and general manager of Monlau Motorsport, spoke with the Spanish site Trademarks to tell the story of the life of his team, and more generally of its structure, since mid-March.

The most important thing was to know when a return to the workshops would be physically possible. Although teleworking was required in the early days, the lifting of certain restrictions in Spain allowed several people in the team to return to work on site. “At the start of confinement, several people in the team carried out their administrative tasks by teleworking, from home, because safety and health are always a priority”, he explained.

“And then in mid-April, we were able to resume activity in person with a reduced number of people and with the security measures established by our internal protocol, but only in the workshops of our competition departments. We were therefore able to move forward with the preparation of the boxes, the interior of the trucks, the loading area in the workshops, put away the spare parts received from the HRC and have all the motorcycles ready. »

The other fundamental point was to ensure that all the drivers in the structure, and not just the team (Sergio García and Ryusei Yamanaka, editor's note), managed to stay in shape in order to be ready when the The green light will be given for a return to competition. “Since the start of confinement we have been in constant contact with all our pilots from our different structures depending on what the authorities communicated”, He said.

“We held two video conferences every week with Sergio and Ryusei to maintain contact with the team and coordinate their physical preparation. All the pilots trained by performing classic physical exercises at home so as not to lose their routine. We have a defined protocol and each pilot communicates to us by email the training they have completed. »

The start of the season is currently being held on July 19 in Jerez, even if new emergency health measures could once again postpone the resumption. But obviously, the whole paddock wants to believe in this date: “Starting at Jerez would be great news for everyone. Dorna is doing an incredible job to start the championship as quickly as possible by first analyzing the security measures according to its protocol, and it will depend on the latest government decisions. We monitor all official information every day in order to analyze new scenarios and be able to start the championship with the maximum guarantees. »
