The team manager of the Gresini team has not come down from his clouds since Sunday. His protégé Jorge Martín brought him the World Champion title, and thanks to his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio, the team also won the team title. He spoke with Trademarks about his Spanish colt who will leave his ranks for the Red Bull KTM Ajo team in Moto2 next year.

Fausto Gresini did not sign Jorge Martín randomly last year. The team manager and former driver had spotted the young Spaniard for two years already, and for good reason. Despite a Mahindra in difficulty, he already managed to make the most of it: “I always thought Jorge was a very fast driver. I used to see him when he was driving the Mahindra. I started following him then. In my opinion, it takes these boys three years to win, at least. It was like that with him. We signed him at a time when he was starting to mature, we gave him our experience and our confidence. And he has his ability and his will. He is very meticulous. He knows very well what he wants. He asks for very specific things and you have to be able to have technicians who can give him the information. From this point of view, he was very strong. He and the team made the difference like that, and it showed on the track. »

It is true that the young Spaniard impressed this year with his mastery. Despite mistakes (and a lot of bad luck) he largely dominated the Moto3 category, and his team manager already compares him to the greatest : “I cannot perfectly define his style. If I had to make comparisons, I would say it's a mix between Márquez and Lorenzo. He is both refined and aggressive in his piloting, capable of fighting without fear, like a warrior. However, his style is not yet completely defined. This will come with experience. He will become more complete in the future because he is still very young but has a long road ahead of him. »

According to Gresini, Jorge Martín is a real nugget whose destiny is all mapped out: “I see him as a future MotoGP rider. It's certain. We will hear a lot about him and read a lot about him over the next decade. I hope to have a competitive Aprilia, which wins, and then we will see. For the moment our paths separate, but with the respect and pleasure of having worked together. It was very pleasant. There's obviously a bit of bitterness on both sides, but he chose the right path. I'm happy for him and I believe he can do good things. I wish it to him. »
