The Moto3 paddock returns to Balaton Park for the Hungarian Grand Prix, and just after the first major upset in the championship standings. Maximo Quiles, seemingly unflappable since the start of the season, suffered his first setback at Mugello last week, finishing 11th in a race he had led for much of the race, due to contact with a competitor in the closing laps. His lead over Alvaro Carpe has thus been reduced to 52 points, and the Spaniard will be looking to bounce back this weekend to reassert his dominance in the smallest category of the world championship. To do so, he will draw on the confidence gained from having already won the race last year.

Having just had his tonsils removed, David Almansa pipped Maximo Quiles at the post in Hungary. The Intact GP rider secured his third pole position of the year in a Q2 that... long dominated by the championship leader. The Aspar driver, in his final effort, missed pole position by only 64 thousandths of a second: “I am very happy”, the poleman confided in parc fermé. It's a very special weekend, the team is working wonderfully and my feeling on the bike is incredible.
Brian Uriarte, Jesus Rios, Cormac Buchanan, and Adrian Cruces were the four drivers to advance from Q1 earlier today. Surprisingly, the best of them qualified on the front row of the starting grid, with Brian Uriarte setting an excellent third-fastest time of 1:46.323. thus completing a first line that is 100% Spanish.
Behind them, The second line will be shared between Valentin Perrone, Jesus Rios and Rico Salmela. The start of the Moto3 Hungarian Grand Prix is scheduled for 11:00 this Sunday at the Balaton Park circuit.
