It was since the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez that Marco Bezzecchi took the lead in the Moto3 World Championship ahead of Jorge Martin, Aron Canet and Fabio di Giannantonio. Marco and his German team PruestelGP hoped to arrive as leaders at the German GP, but an unfortunate fall by Bezzecchi at Assen relegated him to second position, just 2 points behind Martin.

At the Sachsenring, Friday got off to a bad start with front tire problems. Then you tried the medium which gave a lot of movement to the bike?

" Yes quite. Since a few races we have been using the medium front, it is the one that suits us best with the KTM. On the other hand, with the medium rear tire which generates much more grip, it is difficult to find the right balance between front and rear grip. The rear tire generates much more grip and movement at the front. This is not easy to resolve. »

After FP3, behind Lorenzo Dalla Porta et Aron canet, Marco was in third position at 0.311.

“We finished third, finding a setting which helped him a lot because we understood what he was missing on this track. In fact the grip is better than you think. The setting we found in FP3 gave it less movement, therefore more confidence, especially in fast corners. You need good stability in left turns 5 to 10, so have confidence in the front. »

In qualifying, despite a heavy fall from Bezzecchi, you managed to obtain seventh place at 0.349?

“He fell in his first run. He wanted to “put a little more” in the second sector on the second lap, because turn 3 was his weak point. Unfortunately he had a high side. We managed to repair the bike very quickly. It was really positive because he was then able to do two other outings.

“He did his times on his own. We could perhaps have hoped for better, but it was still positive because he finished 7th, 0.3 from pole. The whole thing was pretty good. »

In the race with 18 laps remaining, Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio were leading, then Giannantonio fell, so the first two in the Championship (separated by 2 points) Martin and Bezzecchi found themselves leaders. It was the fight at the top!

“Marco in the last third of the race was unable to follow Martin in sector 2, where we had difficulties in terms of pace. »

“Bezzecchi preferred to ensure and score big points. The previous crash at Assen had unfortunately caused a lot of damage. Afterwards he had good pace at the end of the race, except in the sector where he struggled a little. »

Jakub Kornfeil comes 7th at the Brno GP for the national race. Is it rather positive?

“He had a good start to the weekend in Germany, but more difficult in FP3 and qualifying because they struggled to improve the bike. However, he came back well in the race, setting good times. He has good pace in the race, but can improve in qualifying. »
