Long leader of the French GP in Moto3, Bezzecchi fell in the last corner but he nonetheless remains leader of the World Championship. His teammate from the Redox PruestelGP team Jakub Kornfeil, after a gliding flight that went around the world on the internet, managed to finish sixth.

“Our assessment of this French Grand Prix is quite positive despite everything because we performed well during all the sessions, believes Florian. Above all, we had a good pace, which was very important for me for the race. Finally in the race Marco showed that he was strong. He led the GP for many laps, but unfortunately he crashed in the last corner, and so the results are unfortunately not entirely positive. »

The engine you prepared for Marco Bezzecchi's KTM performed incredibly well in every straight line. Did you find a secret to make it go so fast?

“I haven't found a secret, because there isn't one anyway. We decided to change our gearbox a little between FP2 and FP3. We then confirmed and it turned out to be quite positive. It’s true that it changed things a little compared to the Hondas! Also, all KTMs received updates at the start of the weekend, which brought a little extra. »

In which domain ?

“We had new air boxes which improved acceleration by allowing less power to be lost when changing gears. »

Marco fell in the last corner while in the lead, since the leader Fabio by Giannantonio was penalized by two seconds. Isn't his fall due to the fact that the penalty was not announced before?

“Indeed, for me there was a little timing problem because the penalties for Antonelli and Kornfeil were announced very quickly after they had cut the chicane, which was not the case for that of di Giannantonio (editor’s note: announced after arrival). It disturbed the leading group and I think they should have announced this penalty in time, which would perhaps (I mean perhaps) have changed the situation. »

Cornfeel received a penalty of 1.3 seconds, Antonelli a 1.8 and di Giannantonio a 2 second penalty, for going off the track without gaining any time. How is the duration of these penalties determined?

“For me it's quite unclear because Kornfeil and Antonelli didn't gain any advantage. I found it a little harsh. For di Giannantonio on the other hand, we see on the slow motion that he remained at full throttle and he remained behind the driver who preceded him. This was not the case for the other two who turned around and waited.

“For me, I understood that for someone like Kornfeil who lets his competitors pass and waits, there is no penalty in the regulations. It was actually a little blurry. »

Despite his fall, Bezzecchi remains at the head of the World Championship ahead of Fabio di Giannantonio, Aron Canet and Jorge Martin. Does this bode well for the next Grand Prix which will take place in Italy at Mugello ?

“It's good for his morale to still be in the lead with 4 points ahead. He arrives home in Italy as leader of the Championship, so I think that in his head he still remains very confident. »

You completed a day of testing this Monday the day after the GP at Le Mans. How did it go?

“This day has been very interesting. We had good weather, which was already pretty good. We were able to test a certain number of things with Marco in collaboration with KTM and WP regarding the recurring problems he had. That was especially the goal. We wanted to resolve some small problems he had since the start of the season and we found a couple of interesting things. »
