During the three free practice sessions, the fourteen fastest drivers qualified, before then the sixteen others found themselves on track to select the four fastest among them to complete the field of eighteen qualified for Q2. We thus found these 18 men on the track to determine the positions on the first six rows of the starting grid.

Pole position finally went to Suzuki in 1'45.410, ahead of Ogura, Rodrigo, Fernández, Arbolino and Arenas.
