George Martin is the rider who is leading the Moto3 championship in this mid-Grand Prix season. The 20-year-old Spaniard presented a journey full of panache, which took him to the top of the general ranking, but which also weakened him in certain cases in the title race. In an interview with speedweek, the 20-year-old Spaniard who has already secured a future in Moto2 with KTM for the future explains his approach…
George Martin started learning his trade in Moto3 in 2015, and his training seems to be paying off in 2018. Already last year, he showed his maturity by winning his first victory in Valencia and finishing his year at the head of nine positions cutting edge and as many podiums. This time, he enters the summer break at the helm of the category. With this result: six pole positions, five successes, an eleventh place as worst result and three retirements due to a crash. Which gives him seven points ahead of his rival revelation of the year, Bezzecchi, after nine meetings.
When the Honda Gresini driver was asked if he could not be more careful and managerial in approaching his races, he replied: “ The season has gone very well so far. I was consistent and very fast on every occasion. At Le Mans and Jerez, it was my opponents who knocked me to the ground. So it wasn't my fault. I only have Barcelona's downfall to blame me for. Overall, I feel good on the Honda, we have a good base. I will try to collect as many points as possible in the next races ».
The 20-year-old Spaniard continues: “ I'm relaxed, and at the moment, the prospect of the title is not my priority because there are still many races left. I just want to give my best in every session and every race, I want to achieve victories. I'm focused on that. I'll start looking at the crown five or six races before the end of the season ».
