In 2020, the experienced Tech3 troops will explore a land that is unknown to them. Indeed, if their experience was forged in the premier category of the Grands Prix and its antechamber, they had never campaigned in the entry discipline. However, this will be the case in 2020, with a KTM factory which gave him this mission to compensate for his departure from Moto2. A radical announcement made so late that Hervé Poncharal had to go hunting for two drivers in a market where there was no longer a plethora of top drivers. The Frenchman nevertheless formed his duo with the Japanese Sasaki and the beginner Deniz Öncü…

Given the circumstances imposed, the work ofHervé Poncharal can be considered remarkable. Because having to find two riders from mid-August for a unique adventure in Moto3 was not a trivial matter. But the Frenchman succeeded, by signing Ayumu Sasaki et Deniz Oncu.

Of course, we could argue that this duo does not arouse the slightest fear on paper, but it must be placed in the context of a category which no longer has dominant drivers. Last season, no less than twelve drivers entered the list of winners of the 19 races on the program: Kaito Toba (Doha), Jaume Masia (Las Termas), Aron Canet (Austin, Brno, Aragon), Nicolò Antonelli (Jerez), John mcphee (Le Mans), Tony Arbolino (Mugello, Assen), Marcos Ramirez (Barcelona, Silverstone), Lorenzo Dalla Porta (Sachsenring), Roman Fenati (Spielberg), Tatsuki suzuki (Misano), Albert Arenas (Buriram) and Sergio Garcia (Valencia) have won at least once.

From then on, Hervé assures that there will be opportunities: “ Moto3 is a very strange class. I really like KTM bikes in Moto3. But as a team leader or team owner, you have a thankless job in this class. Nobody wants that! Because races are unpredictable… » commented the Frenchman in an interview with Speedweek. “ Sasaki is fast. He had a fifth and sixth place finish this year. He can finish among the top five in the championship in 2020. »
