Lorenzo Fellon

Lorenzo Fellon, after two difficult years of the world championship, is changing a lot of things for 2023. The 18-year-old Frenchman must also manage a major family bereavement.

About Diana Tamantini de Corsedimoto.com

His global adventure at the moment is not simple. Lorenzo Fellon has just completed his second season in Moto3, with some small progress. We are talking about some finishes in the points, something that did not happen in his first year, giving him a particular relief. Overall however, until now, the Avignonnais of 18 years old has scored very little, even if his young age tells us that he still has a lot of room for improvement. In 2023 he leaves the Honda of SIC58 Squadra Corse to get to know the KTM of CIP team of Alain Bronec : Will this radical change be necessary to take significant steps forward? Recent family bereavement could then represent a strong additional motivation.

Lorenzo Fellon arrives in the World Championship in 2021 as a rookie signed by Paolo Simoncelli's team. He must leave #5, chosen in the footsteps of his model Johann zarco but already used in Moto3 (by Jaume Masiá), opting for #20. It turned out to be a very difficult year, ending with a bitter outcome: He was then the only full-time driver not to have scored points all season. He remains with the same team in 2022: We see interesting flashes, but for a few GPs, and the overall results are negative. The first points arrive in the events of Austin, Portimão, Mugello, plus the best results in Assen and Silverstone, two thirteenth places.

Paolo Simoncelli to Lorenzo Fellon: “ you can overtake in this sport, overtaking is allowed, you will not be finede "

Let's remember, however, that in Portugal he started from the front rows for the first time, and a 14th place was not exactly what we hoped for... Overall, flashes which poorly balance the numerous falls during the sessions and the majority of rankings in outside the points. He was also withdrawn from the Jerez race, which he did not compete in due to a dislocated shoulder following an accident in free practice.

He is certainly a very young driver, who still has a lot of areas to work on to grow. Paolo Simoncelli highlighted certain aspects in its post-race press releases, and one in particular. Let us cite for example what the boss of SIC58 wrote after the round at Sachsenring. “ I can't say that he isn't fast, only that he has these two or three technical-tactic problems to resolve. […]
Sometimes we make fun of him by saying:
" Look at, you can overtake in this sport, overtaking is allowed, go slowly, you won't get a fine »

We must also find a way to reduce the number of falls. We also recall that he recently had to face serious grief, the loss of his father Laurent, due to illness. A situation that is obviously not easy to manage for an 18-year-old boy, but which could become a strong boost of motivation in the year 2023. What can be done? Lorenzo Fellon ? The answers will come once we get back on the trail.
