Long before representing the colors today CFMOTO extension in Moto2 and Moto3, Jorge Martinez, nicknamed “Aspar”, born in 1962 in Alzira, south of Valencia in Spain, can boast of having won 37 Grand Prix victories, with 4 world titles to boot, during the 16 years in which he participated in the 80cc and 125cc world championships.

Then becoming a team owner, the 61-year-old never abandoned the small categories, even if he also ventured into MotoGP, titles and victories continuing to rain down to reach 15 and 153 respectively.

With such a track record and such longevity in the paddock, shared only by a few characters like Hervé Poncharal ou Site Pons, one might think the Spaniard was jaded before taking a well-deserved retirement under the Valencian sun…

Obviously, this is far from being the case, given his activities on the rare Sundays without a race...

And on racing Sundays, the man, with the nickname which refers to the espadrilles manufacturing profession practiced by his grandfather, may well give some reasonable objectives to David Alonso before the Qatar Grand Prix, “David, remember: we came here to have fun! », his blood pressure undoubtedly caused his doctor to panic in the last lap of the race...

On the business side, after having been supported for a long time by the GP promoter, Aspar seems to have stabilized its business since its collaboration with the Pierer Mobility group. No more Spanish sponsors Bancaja or Mapfre of the 125cc, no more Mahindra which still allowed a certain Francesco Bagnaia to shine victoriously, and welcome to KTMthen GASGAS and today CFMOTO extension.

Le Chinese manufacturer founded in 1989 has in fact been a partner of the PIERER Mobility group for almost 10 years, producing and selling KTM motorcycles in China. It has its own range, part of which uses KTM technology, and has just strengthened its cooperation last July, after KTM took over the distribution of CFMOTO motorcycles in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Great Britain in January 2023.

In short, it works for the two manufacturers, and it also works on the track, with a team CFMOTO Aspar Team whose official name has certainly lost the reference to Angel Nieto, but whose Moto3 and Moto2 are as beautiful as they are efficient.

After a first season last year in turquoise colors, the CFMOTO Aspar Team lined up this year David Alonso et Joel Esteban in Moto3, Jake dixon et Izan Guevara in Moto2, with a priori David Alonso et Jake dixon able to challenge for their respective world titles. With such a structure, retirement is not yet in sight for the Valencian hero…
