The boss of the Sic58 team has difficulty understanding the lack of exemplary sanctions against drivers he judges “suicide bombers”.

The Moto3 race in Thailand was animated by the triple fall of Arón Canet, John Mcphee and Tatsuki Suzuki caused by Darryn Binder who was a little too aggressive when braking. This is not the first time that the latter has been involved in incidents, and he is beginning to attract the wrath of his colleagues, in addition to those of opposing teams.

This time, it is true that the consequences were important, since the title could have been decided on this action. Indeed, Canet, who was only two points behind Lorenzo Dalla Porta at the start of the race, now finds himself 22 points behind, the Italian having taken second place. With only four races remaining, this point gap could allow him to maintain the advantage, without the Spaniard being able to fight 100%.

The future will tell if this maneuver will cost Canet the title, for the moment there has been no shortage of reactions, starting with Paolo Simoncelli, boss of the Sic58 team and who saw his driver's race spoiled, without Binder receiving a penalty more serious than a ride through.

“Without rules we are lost”, did he declare. “This is why the rules must be stricter in Moto3 and leave no room for doubt, to slow down kamikaze riders. During this last Grand Prix, we saw how easily a team's work can be wiped out in a few seconds. Tatsuki saw his race go up in smoke when he could probably finish in the podium zone, and no one will give Canet back the chance at a title. This is not a game and can become dangerous. »

“I will never tire of repeating that we need harsher sanctions” he continued. “A driver is a young boy, it is obvious that if you give him a little he will ultimately take everything and will, for example, enjoy the outside area of the track without thinking too much about it. Sanctions are the only way to make them think twice, or even three times, before attempting to exceed the limit. The goal must be to discourage these flashes of “heroism”. »
