Pedro Acosta KTM

In just over a month, Pedro Acosta has made himself world famous. A reputation built in four Grand Prix performances. But it must also be said that he did well. Because what he accomplished is historic: a second place to begin with then three victories in a row. Downright. Here he is at the head of the championship, his first at this level, with 51 lengths ahead. The Ajo KTM rider impresses on the track, but what perfects the character to the point of bringing him into the world of exception is also his state of mind. Who is very different from teenagers his age...

When you are 16, generally, you are a little carefree while the channel of Social Media is like an obligatory passage in the initiation to life. For better and for worse. A generational approach that absolutely does not fit with Peter Acosta. The latter thus coldly asserts: “ when you enter the world championship and you do well, it is normal that your concentration can play tricks on you ", he says of the pressure. Then he adds: “ you may become distracted by other things and no longer be as focused. I think it helped that I don't like social media. I can concentrate on my business ».

And his business comes down to one thing: “ I concentrate on the race. This is what I live for. I love flying. That's all I do. Many people in the paddock say they have other hobbies and their job is to be a driver ", have noticed Acosta which is defined completely differently: “ if I do five hours of motorcycle training, it's not work for me. It's like a playground ».

Pedro Acosta: “Actually, I didn’t like motorcycles at all…”

And yet, if he found himself behind a handlebar, it was not because he was pushed by a spontaneous vocation. What follows would be enough to disgust his adversaries… “ I actually didn't like motorcycles at all, but then I went to a racing school and I immediately felt something I'd never felt before. I was immediately captivated ". If the young Acosta got there, it was because his father, a fisherman by trade, pushed him to do so. Moreover, it was through him that he took his references. And this is another particularity of this Spaniard: his models are defined before the period Red... " My father is from that era and my earliest memories are videos of Doohan, Rainey and Schwantz. These races were spectacular and caught my attention ».

It is perhaps thanks to this influence of the GP500 generation that he built this pure approach to competition. Peter Acosta indeed states on Motorsport-total : " it's a world championship for selfish people. You need to know that you are here to fight for something. There will be days when things go well, but there will also be bad days. But I'll always go out with the intention of giving it my all ". He sums up his attitude towards racing with this apt phrase: “ I always tell myself: if someone wastes 45 minutes of their life watching my race, then at least I have to give everything I can ».

A beautiful philosophy but also a head apparently already well made. Acosta knows that people are already talking about him MotoGP, and that the temptation to grill the stepss will show up shortly. But he is ready to face: “ The better prepared you are for MotoGP, the better your chances of fighting for the World Championshipe. Every rider thinks differently, but the more steps you take, the greater the long-term advantage ". Said a pilot born on May 25, 2004…
