These are therefore not drops of rain but rather sanctions which have just fallen on the Losail circuit in Qatar to penalize 7 Moto3 drivers on the day of the race.
Peter Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Romano Fenati (Sterilgarda Max Racing Team), Dennis Foggia (Leopard Racing), Sergio Garcia (GASGAS Gaviota Aspar Team), Stefano Nepa (BOE Owlride), Deniz Oncu (Red Bull KTM Tech 3) and Riccardo rossi (BOE Owlride) are affected and will have to start from the pitlane.
What did those involved do? They hindered the smooth running of FP2 by driving too slowly between turn 15 and turn 16. This happened in the very last seconds of the session, during a little game which now takes on hallucinatory proportions: a Most of the drivers return to their box and wait for the very last moments before setting off for the final launch lap in order to cross the line only one or two seconds before the red lights come on. Some have already been trapped in this sort of Russian roulette which requires, whatever happens, to give their all in the launch lap. Others, like those punished for the day, know what time the little train will arrive and wait for it to pass, in slow motion and close to the last bend. This is why they were (rightly) punished.
In the list of those punished, only Sergio Garcia (2nd), Pedro Acosta (9th), Romano Fenati (10th) et Stefano Nepa (11th) were among the pre-qualified for Q2: they will be worth their cost!
Remember that the start of the pitlane is five seconds after the passage of the last competitor...
