The Grands Prix offer a spectacle which asserts itself as the best of motor sports, but there is still one element which spoils the party: the qualifications of the Moto3. And more particularly the last five minutes of an exercise where taking aspiration means finding inspiration. Except that more than thirty drivers decide to do this at the same short time on a track that has become narrow. And cohabitation is going badly. The protagonists who wait for a wheel find themselves penalized when it is not the accident that occurs. For the moment the latter has initially proven to be spectacular before becoming serious. But the discipline seems to be on borrowed time.

Something to call out to the security man Mike Webb. Who is the first to regret having to announce a starting grid turned upside down by sanctions a few minutes before the start of the race? For the readability of the show, it's rather average. Especially since the penalties are imposed on an industrial scale. Judge for yourself: 19 drivers out of 32 in Aragon or even 23 drivers branded in Misano. Not less !

The reason is that Webb and his team must pass the video of the thirty or more participants and decide if one of them was too slow on his base time on more than three sectors of the route or if he knowingly waited for a driver to hang in its wake. In the latter case, there are also fines, ranging from 500 to 1 euros depending on the frequency of the initiative.

A device which clearly does not deter. At each Grand Prix, the same tragicomic farce is repeated. So we are thinking about changing the rule. The idea of a Superbike Superpole was ruled out because it took too long to fit into the tight-timed meeting. Then we would move towards a hierarchy divided into three force groups at the end of FP3.

These groups made up of no more than twenty pilots would have a time limit of twelve minutes to do their job. Once the performance was over, everything would be mixed and the places would be distributed according to the ranking obtained in their group. Which induces a first line made up of the first three in the group, and so on. Thus, a group that would have been forced to work on a wetter track than the others would not be handicapped. However, some, during FP3, could in this case start to calculate to avoid finding themselves among the group of tenors to better, then, do well in the constitution of the grid...

For the moment, this remains a project. But what is certain is that next season, a new scheme for Moto3 qualifying is eagerly sought.
