After a month of absence, Moto3 is back at Silverstone, and it starts straight away with the FP. The smallest of the categories is relatively dominated by a David Alonso (CFMoto Aspar Team) on fire this season, but despite his six victories in nine races, he must not let his guard down. Remember that it was here that he won his first Grand Prix in 2023, when he was just a young rookie. Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and Ivan Ortola (KTM MT Helmets MSi) showed, with a victory each, that they were capable of occasionally competing with the Colombian. Impossible to forget Daniel Holgado, (GasGas Red Bull Tech3), winner in Portugal and often fast despite a slight drop in recent form.
Even if you already know the outcome of this session, come relive it with us! Before starting, here is a table which summarizes the known facts:

For the moment, the sun is shining at Silverstone, but rain is not ruled out in Great Britain over the duration of the weekend. A first bad news for Joshua Whatley (Honda MLAV Racing), who will not start his national GP, and who will never return with his previous training. After a very complicated start to the season, the two parties decided to part ways. It is replaced by Vicente Perez. Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia), very strong before the break, broke his collarbone during the summer. As Luca Lunetta (Honda Sic58 Squadra Corsica), it is not available for this round.
Right then! 👊

Tatsuki suzuki (Husqvarna Intact GP Team) is the first to draw, while his start to the season was more than disappointing. But Ivan Ortola reply without delay, immediately followed by David Alonso. The drivers are already very fast, in 2'11 while the record is 2'10. Suzuki hangs on, much more than the homonymous brand in MotoGP.
Pay attention to David munoz (KTM Boé Motorsports), which, despite checkered results, is often well placed. He further proves his talent by taking first place 17 minutes from time. However, we feel David Alonso easier than his teammates, and this impression does not take long to be reflected in the clock. The Colombian breaks the track record after barely 20 minutes of free practice.
And just like that, the lap record is gone! 💥

The surprising Scott Ogden (Honda MLav Racing), all alone in the box therefore, also beats the record of fenati established in 2021 but briefly ranked second behind Alonso. Nice surprise, because he also missed the start of the year.
Five minutes from the end, everything comes to a head. Angel Piqueras (Honda Leopard Racing) et Ryusei Yamanaka (KTM MT Helmets MSi) beat the previous lap record, but that's nothing compared to Tatsuki Suzuki which is even faster! Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Garlic) is also very well ranked. But it is not finished.
David Alonso achieves the first 2'09 in Moto3 history! With one lap to go, this is perhaps the benchmark lap of this morning. A lap later, Alonso improved again and was three tenths behind Ivan Ortola ! What a demonstration from the Colombian. Ivan Ortola is second, while Tatsuki Suzuki finished this session in third position.
The first-ever 2:09 lapses for a # Moto3 bike at Silverstone!
