Dissatisfied with his driver at the end of the Spanish Grand Prix 15 days ago, the team manager of the SIC58 Squadra Corse made an update which served with a victory last week.

Paolo Simoncelli experienced two very different ends of Grands Prix at Jerez with a Tatsuki suzuki who made him go through all the emotions. If the Japanese has had a string of pole positions since the start of the season (three in three races, with Qatar), he had not managed to achieve success in the race and struggled to remain consistent until the checkered flag.

At the end of the Spanish Grand Prix, he crossed the finish line in eighth position, after having fallen to 11th place. He finished just ahead of his teammate, Niccolò Antonelli, who for his part started from 12th on the grid. Simoncelli had clearly announced that he expected much more than a pole position:

“In Moto3 today, we can't afford superficiality or lack of humility, and when that happens others overtake us and that's what happened on Sunday. Vasco Rossi sang in 1994: "It's good like that... nothing to add" and for us it's not good like that, but the phrase "nothing to add" is exactly what I feel. »

The adjustment made by Simoncelli has, it seems, borne fruit, since last Sunday, Suzuki led the entire race before winning for the second time in his career. An error-free domination which earned a great moment of joy in the parc ferme, and great satisfaction for the boss of the SIC58 Squadra Corse.

“Tatsuki did the race I wanted, or rather that I kindly ordered him to do”, did he declare. “It was important that he didn’t think too much. This is the summary of four years of work by our team: 22 laps in the lead and victory. I'm proud of the whole team and of Tatsuki, because in the end on the bike there is only the rider and he is the one who makes the difference. We are outsiders and we can criticize, give advice or congratulate, but we are all professionals on a wall. »

“The rest, you saw on TV: the joy, the hugs, the shouts and the pats on the back. It was clear and transparent, just us. »

With this victory, Tatsuki Suzuki now occupies second place in the World Championship, just six points behindAlbert Arenas, who for his part made a mistake.
