A track with uncertain conditions was not enough to deprive Peter Acosta of victory at the Styrian Grand Prix, a home race for KTM and Red Bull at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The very talented Red Bull KTM Team rider Ajo has so far achieved five victories in ten races in his magnificent rookie season.

The race was declared wet, despite the fact that the rain had stopped shortly before the start and a dry line was beginning to appear on the Austrian track. Despite the difficult conditions, Peter Acosta made a good start from the second row of the grid and took third place in the first corner. Shortly after, the rookie reached second place and, with the help of the leader Sergio Garcia on his Aspar team GasGas, escaped from the rest of the peloton. The two drivers exchanged the lead during the rest of the race and, after a beautiful and closely fought final lap, Peter Acosta emerged victorious, Sergio Garcia falling in the penultimate corner after being overtaken but before finishing second!

Peter Acosta remains leader of the Moto3 world championship and brings his capital to 183 points, or 53 more than Sergio Garcia which occupies second position.

Peter Acosta : “It wasn't easy because, on the grid, we had doubts about the condition of the track. In the end, we made the right choice. Despite this, the race was long, because our opponent for victory did not make it easy for us and was very strong. I spent a lot of laps behind him and there were several places to overtake; I tried, but it was tight. I'm happy to have won, especially at home for Red Bull and KTM. »

Aki Ajo : “It was a very difficult race in Moto3, due to the weather conditions. I am grateful to our team and our drivers for remaining calm despite the uncertainty we experienced on the grid, and for being able to make the right decisions. Both Acosta and Masia had an excellent performance. It was another incredible race from Pedro, fighting until the last moment and finally securing the victory. Jaume had a smart Sunday, and showed once again that he is one of the best drivers in the category. Overall, I'm happy with the work the team did throughout the weekend. »

The 17-year-old Spanish driver will have a short rest before competing in the Austrian Grand Prix at the same circuit, from August 13 to 15.
