Tony Arbolino

Despite this period of confinement, the Italian driver remains in contact with the Mallorcan, who helps him progress in the World Championship. He will resume training with him as soon as possible in order to aim for the best possible result in Moto3 and to consider a move to Moto2.

Although he encountered difficulties during the first Grand Prix of the season in Qatar and missed the end of the race, Tony Arbolino nonetheless remains one of the title contenders in Moto3. Building on a solid 2019 season which saw him finish fourth, and now that his three main rivals have left for Moto2, he naturally takes on the status of favorite.

The idea of following the others in the intermediate category arose, but the Italian wanted to try his luck again and not rush things, as he told GPOne during an exclusive interview: “There were some discussions last year but I stayed in Moto3 and at the moment I am focused on my category. When I change it will be a bit complicated from a technical point of view because it's a big jump and the bike is very different. I'll have to train like I'm doing now, and even more, but for the moment it's still a little early to talk about the team. »

The young man from Lombardy will be able to count on a strong coach to help him take this step, since for more than a year now, Jorge Lorenzo has taken him under his wing. Even if he obviously cannot train with him during this period of confinement, the five-time World Champion regularly checks in on his foal and plays a real role in his recent progress in Grand Prix.

“Jorge is confined in a hotel in Dubai, but we are in contact and we talk about everything and nothing, we laugh. I am always very happy when he writes to me”, continued Arbolino in his interview with the Italian site. “Having a champion like Jorge at your side changes you, it’s like for the drivers of Valentino Rossi’s Academy. The progress it makes you make is not only in terms of driving, but also in the head. Being close to a legend like him helps me progress in many aspects, especially in the perception of the result. »
