How are the beginners in the Moto3 category doing? In the general classification, Jeremy Alcoba wins while several drivers have not yet scored points. Let’s take a closer look at their results.

JEREMY ALCOBA, LEADER

The Fausto Gresini driver, who will continue with the team in 2021, had been able to count on six world participations before this year and shows constant progression. His blank result at the Styrian Grand Prix represents his first blank result of the season, and we found him more than once in the leading group fighting for the podium. His three seventh places in Qatar, Andalusia and the Czech Republic show this well, even if he was in slightly more difficulty in Spain (15th) and Austria (14th). However, he remains the best rookie in the category for the moment with 30 points scored and is only seven points from the top 10 overall.

DENIZ ÖNCÜ, MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

The young Turkish driver had already made two appearances before 2020 with two wildcards and three other races replacing his injured brother, Can. This year nevertheless represents his first full season in the world championship and the Tech3 team driver displays his speed. However, his results do not yet show it and the Styrian Grand Prix is the perfect example. Fighting for the podium, he made a mistake and fell, taking his teammate with him. But his 12th place in Qatar and his eighth position in Austria, where he led the race for a few laps, speak volumes. Although he is still just a beginner, he could soon have a say in the category.

RYUSEI YAMANAKA, TWICE IN THE TOP 15

The Japanese from the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team took part in four GPs last year: one replacement and three wildcards. He took a very good ninth place in Catalonia and scored his first world points. But a full first season is not always easy. He has no clean results to his credit but has only entered the points zone twice with a ninth place in Andalusia and a top 15 in Styria a week ago. He is currently third in the rookie championship with eight points.

CARLOS TATAY, SOME POINTS

Reigning Red Bull Rookies Cup champion, he is having his first full season in the World Championship after three wildcards contested in 2019. During the first two he finished 12th each time, his first points in the World Championship, but he abandoned in Valencia. It's better than his results this year, now that he is having his first season in Moto3: the beginnings were good but in practice the beginnings are more complicated. The Avintia Racing team driver has a 13th place in Andalusia as his best result. For the rest, he has not entered the points at any other Grand Prix and also has a blank result.

KUNII, BALTUS, KOFLER, DUPASQUIER AND PIZZOLI FURTHER

Yuki Kunii

As said before, the first season at world level is never easy. Of this year's nine debutants, five have yet to score a single point. Yuki Kunii (Honda Team Asia) didn't come far at all in Andalusia but finished 16th, his best result so far. Barry Baltus (CarXpert PrüstelGP) for his part has one GP less than the others since he was not yet 16 years old at the time of the Qatar GP. His best result so far is 17th position in Andalusia.

There is also his teammate, Jason Dupasquier, who has two 19th positions as his best results, in Andalusia and Styria. Then Maximilian Kofler (CIP), who had competed in a few wildcards and has not yet done better than 18th, also in Andalusia.

Maximilian Köfler

Finally, there is Davide Pizzoli (BOE Skull Rider Facile Energy), who after wildcards and replacements between 2015 and 2019 (with a brief interlude in Supersport in 2017) is also having his first full season. His best results so far are three 23rd places in Qatar, Spain and Styria.
