The Circuit of The Americas (COTA) will host MotoAmerica this weekend. The track, which has been a must-see event for several years, both for the MotoGP World Championship and for many motorsport categories, could be the scene of a turning point in the 2024 Superbike Championship, since three races will be held there.
Located outside of downtown Austin, Texas, the track has been running since 2012. At 3,41 miles (5,4 km), it offers those who ride it an impressive variety of curves and generally exciting spectacle.
Josh Herrin (Warhorse Racing Ducati) enters Texas with a 52-point lead. If he leaves the area Sunday afternoon with a similar lead, he will be crowned Superbike champion for the second time in his career and the first time in 11 years.
Behind, a tight duel is playing out between his closest pursuers. Bobby Fong and Jake Gagne are tied for second place while one of them will be absent this week. Fong, 52 points behind Herrin, will try everything to make the title slip from the Ducati rider's hands.
Gagne will not race at COTA as he has chosen to sit out the remainder of the season to work on his forearm issues. He will also lose his status as the only rider to finish every race in the top-10 this season.
