In parallel with the MotoGP Grand Prix of Assen, MotoAmerica is launching an attack on Ridge Motorsports Park, to compete in the fifth round of its 2024 championship. The race in Washington will mark the comeback of Cameron Beaubier after an injury to the foot which made him miss the last four events.
The schedule for the fifth round of MotoAmerica at the Ridge
Free Trials:
Cameron Petersen took the controls during the MotoAmerica free practice session at Ridge Motorsports Park. Completing a lap in 1:41.529 on the handlebars of his YZF-R1, the Yamaha rider regains the lead of a session after a complicated weekend in Brainerd.
His Attack Performance teammate, Jake Gagne, brought home a double for the team with a lap of 1:41.689. Josh Herrin was well able to climb into the top 2, but failed eleven thousandths behind Gagne with Panigale V4 R.
Current championship leader, Bobby Fong ranks eighth, and doesn't seem to be able to dominate the weekend as much as he did two weeks ago.
Loris Baz started the meeting discreetly, and took sixth place in practice, almost a second from the lead. The Ducati rider, however, kept some on hand, as the results of the following session will show.
Qualification 1;
Loris Baz wakes up in Qualifying and dominates the first of the two sessions which govern the starting grid. The Frenchman set the best time and secured the provisional Pol position in 1:40.034, 1,5 seconds faster than in the morning (local time).
After Attack Performance, it was Warhorse Racing who took the double thanks to Josh Herrin's second time. The No. 2 fails almost two tenths behind the Habs.
The gaps are tight in this second session of the day, and the top six are within a second. Bobby Fong completed the top-3 in 1:40.304 behind the Ducati, as the first Yamaha in the standings.
P1 leader Cameron Petersen fell to fourth when the going got tough.
The fifth round of the championship is also the one which welcomes the big return of Cameron Beaubier. The man who won three of the first five races before getting injured finished the session in sixth position with a time of 1:41.113. Note that he achieved this performance just after suffering a fall without consequences.
