The Superbike championship MotoAmerica begins its season at Road Atlanta, in Georgia (USA), first round of the 9 events of its calendar. Unlike the Supersport who have already fought at Daytona and the Baggers who have just competed in Austin, we are starting from scratch for the 1000cc.

Absent at the end of the 2023 season, the five-time MotoAmerica Superbike champion Cameron Beaubier dominated the first free practice session aboard his Tytler Cycle Racing BMW, ahead of two other title contenders, Josh Herrin (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati) and the defending champion Jake Gagne (Attack Performance Yamaha). Returning to the USA after two years spent in WorldSBK with a BMW, Loris Baz (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati) concluded this warm-up in 10th position.

In the afternoon, during the first qualifying, we witnessed a real demonstration from the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati team, Josh Herrin first achieving 1'24.627, which assured him provisional pole position, before offering his rear wheel to his teammate Loris Baz, helping him to climb to 3rd position! A great spirit and great work from the Ducati team largely supported by Borgo Panigale…

Interspersed in this duo of ultimately red V4Rs (perhaps one day we will talk about the end of the story...), is the three-time reigning MotoAmerica Superbike champion Jake Gagne which proves, if necessary, that he does not intend in the least to come down from his pedestal! Only 96 thousandths from Josh Herrin, the last qualifying session promises to be more than competitive...

While waiting for the rest of the debates, we will also note the good arrival in the category of Sean Dylan Kelly on TopPro Racing's BMW M 1000 RR, the 2021 MotoAmerica Supersport champion and ex-Moto2 rider finishing 7th in the morning and 5th in the afternoon, less than half a second behind Josh Herrin.
