The third round of the electric motorcycle world championship once again did not disappoint, with a race full of twists and turns which resulted in a new winner, Miquel Pons.

The first turnaround took place before the race even kicked off. Eric Granado (One Energy Racing), author of his third E-Pole this season (he is undefeated in the exercise this year), was in fact the victim of a mechanical problem on the grid, which forced the officials to evacuate him and his machine, as well as to delay the start.

When the lights went out, it was Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP) who took the holeshot, ahead of Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) who, starting from fourth place on the grid, made an aggressive attack into the bend 10 to grab second position.

Aspiration for inspired pilots

Like the other categories, and in particular Moto3 and MotoGP a few hours earlier, the MotoE event was the scene of numerous aspiration phenomena in the main straight. With the direct consequence of multiple changes of leader: Aegerter in the first place, but also Alessandro Zaccone (Octo Pramac MotoE), and finally Pons who seized the race lead on the penultimate lap.

The Spaniard managed to keep his first place at the last minute, helped by the yellow flags coming out in the last loop, following the accident of Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadracorse). A real boon for the LCR E-Team driver, who was able to avoid any comeback to sign his first success in the discipline.

Behind him, Aegerter also retained his position in the face of attacks from the reigning Champion, Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40). The Swiss may not have won the victory but he is certainly doing the right thing in the championship, coming back just one small unit behind the leader, Zaccone. The latter for his part finished the event at the foot of the podium, ahead of Yonny Hernandez (Octo Pramac MotoE) and the young Fermín Aldeguer (OpenBank Aspar Team), author of a convincing performance in Catalonia.

Next followed Matteo Ferrari (Indonesian E-Racing Gresini MotoE), who could have finished a notch higher if he had not been penalized for exceeding the track limits. Lukas Tulovic (Tech3 E-Racing), the fastest driver on Friday, must ultimately settle for eighth place ahead of Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE) and Frenchman Corentin Perolari (Tech3 E-Racing).
