The Italian driver is ready to be one of the protagonists of the 2020 season. One thing is certain however, he will keep an eye on the rookies.

Alex De Angelis is one of the “veterans” of the MotoE Championship this year. The Octo Pramac team driver is eager to return to the track, even if he has not been able to ride in recent days at Misano for technical reasons. He is, however, ready to be one of the protagonists of this particular season, but keeping an eye on the new ones in the category “who did not come to stand and watch. »

“I was also present in Misano but I was not able to shoot”, he said during a live on social networks with Energica. “Unfortunately my bike was not ready: many factories were closed and I was unable to receive the equipment I needed. I was still there to follow young pilots. I coached a bit, in addition to listening to the positive comments on the new asphalt. It wasn't that it was too old, but the conditions just weren't perfect, they did a great job. »

De Angelis then returned to his participation in the championship, which represents a new adventure taken on the fly and with great joy: “I was really happy!” It represents a new challenge for me, but not only that, because no one really knew what to expect. I found a different bike, which requires a completely different riding style. The electric motor has plenty of power but you have to be careful, especially when cornering. The slow ones are taken like in MotoGP while the fast ones are taken more like Moto3. »

Before the forced break, the MotoE riders were able to carry out their first tests for the new season. “There are a lot of improvements”, underlined the Italian. “Especially from Michelin and Energica. We could say “as always”, but this time there is even more. They allowed us to be almost two seconds faster than last year. We manage to drive in an “easier” way. The battery temperature is lower and it can be recharged more quickly. So we can spend more time on track, which is what we need. »

The 26-year-old rider is therefore preparing to compete in his second season in MotoE. “It's going to be even more difficult, some drivers are ready to win, others didn't come to stand there and watch. There are Moto2 guys like Aegerter who have a lot of experience and are ready to fight among the front runners. » So what will the Italian’s objectives be? “First of all, I want to fight for the podium, and then if we are there why not try to win the title? Clearly, it will be hard. Matteo Ferrari, for example, was fast from Jerez. He must have found the right way to ride this bike. »

De Angelis finally did not fail to send everyone a message of encouragement and support during this complicated period: “I am sorry to those who have suffered loss. Overall, we have done well staying at home. Now we must show how we can rebuild daily life. Those who are still there must move forward, with a smile and being positive. We owe it in particular to young people, who need to be guided. »
