Matteo Ferrari spoke in more detail about the surprise that was the discovery of MotoE and what this category brought him.

“I realize every day a little more what I have done. » In 2019, in fact, Matteo Ferrari was the first rider in history to win the title in MotoE, the brand new electric world championship. The Gresini team driver has established himself at world level and now wishes to confirm this year. He spoke with Fabio Nonnato on Box18, Corsedimoto's Facebook live.

“I had never ridden an electric motorcycle, it was a great discovery”, said the Italian pilot. “I have to say that Energica did an excellent job right away. There are no gears, so the engine braking behaves differently, so does the control. Perhaps the only fault currently is the braking, which also depends on weight. But this is a category in constant evolution, and there is significant room for improvement. »

The difference is also obvious in terms of “background noise”. “We hear the noise when we pass over the curbs, the brakes whistling, the fairing that “squeaks”… We learn to appreciate a lot of sounds. » Even if it creates a few more problems when overtaking: “At the beginning it wasn't easy, we couldn't hear the opponents. If you're behind it's not bad because the other doesn't expect it, but if you're in front... You have to be very reactive. »

Appreciating the electric motorcycle also involves another aspect. “In my opinion, it helps to understand what you can do as a pilot”, continued Ferrari. “It’s up to us to understand the bike and therefore understand how to ride it. »

This year, the objective is therefore confirmation, alongside a new teammate, Alessandro Zaccone: “We’ve known each other since we were little. The teammate is always the first opponent, I will have to be careful because he is fast. »
