The Gresini rider dominated less in Spain than he was able to do earlier in the season, but was able to play in a position to capture the title at the last round of MotoE.

Matteo Ferrari arrived in Valencia as the big favorite for the MotoE Championship, but a lot of things could still happen, and the Italian had to go for his title at the end of the two races contested on the Spanish track.

Qualifying in second position, he saw his Championship rivals, Héctor Garzó and Bradley Smith, pass him and reach the podium, closing the gap before the last race of the season. However, with Garzó's Race 1 disqualification, only Smith was in position to also take the title on Sunday.

The latter gave everything, but it was not enough. Despite his second place (behind an unbeatable Eric Granado who achieved a double), the Englishman had to bow and it was Ferrari, despite his fifth position, who became the first MotoE World Champion of the History with an 11-point lead.

“I’m really happy with this title”, he commented upon arrival. “In a way I made motorcycling history by winning the first season in this category. When a year like this starts you always think about the title, but a few months ago it was hard to imagine that I would become champion. I have to admit that I started thinking about it race after race and today I am in heaven. »

“I'm part of a great team and we deserve this trophy, especially because we competed against great talents who have a lot of experience. Let's take advantage of this moment before we start working for next year, where we want to confirm our place at the top. »
