With this year beginning, a decade in Grand Prix comes to an end. The opportunity to draw a quantitative assessment, particularly in MotoGP. It will therefore not be surprising to see a dominant Marc Márquez, but if we extend the vision to Moto2, we also discover a Johann Zarco who left his mark on the period...

2020 opens a new decade in Grand Prix and, to balance all accounts, 2019 in its final hours presented us with its results since 2010. A gap marked by the advent of Marc Márquez, but also the identification of twelve other drivers who won one or more of the 180 races.

The eight-time world champion Marc Márquez not only dominated the 2019 MotoGP season in Repsol Honda colors with twelve victories and 18 top 2 results in 19 Grand Prix. The 26-year-old Spaniard also won 56 of 180 races of the premier category of the Motorcycle World Championship which took place from 2010 to 2019. This corresponds to a rate of 31,1% and guarantees first place for the MotoGP champion (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 ) in the ranking of the last decade.

Second to fourth places are followed by Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa et Casey Stoner, three champions who have already finished their racing careers. Lorenzo was a three-time MotoGP world champion from 2010 to 2015, Stoner celebrated its second title in the highest category in 2011. Pedrosa was denied this triumph, despite being third among the most successful drivers of the decade with 23 Grand Prix victories.

Behind, we find the MotoGP world vice-champion of the last three years, Andrea Dovizioso, and the nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi which therefore occupies 6th place. His last victory dates back to Assen in 2017. Maverick Vinales, Cal Crutchlow, Alex Rins, Ben Spies, Jack Miller, Andrea Iannone et Danilo Petrucci complete the list of 13 drivers who won one or more races in the “premier class” from 2010 to 2019.

By the way : Marc Márquez, who celebrated his first victory in the 125cc class at the 2010 Italian Grand Prix, is of course the most successful rider of the decade with a total of 82 victories in all categories…

Since we are broadening the horizon, let us focus on the Moto2, born precisely in 2010. Marc Márquez is still the most successful driver. During his two-year 2011-2012 period in the category, the Cervera champion scored 16 victories, a record still undefeated. Behind him, we find the only one who can claim two titles, either Johann zarco, which stopped at 15, followed by Tito Rabat with 13 victories and Thomas Luthi with 12. Pol Espargaro boasts 10 successes in three years in Moto2, Franco Morbidelli is at 8, all conquered in its glory year. Same speech for his compatriot Francis Bagnaia, while the last champion, Alex Marquez, achieved “only” five successes during his world championship season, to which must be added 3 others in 2017.
