When KTM presentation, Stefan Pierer, CEO of the Austrian firm, was clear: after a first year of development, his company will be ready to supply MotoGP to a private team.

Stefan pierer : “We are focusing on the factory team in the first year. We have a five-year contract with Dorna, and we have already agreed that for the second year we will also provide equipment and motorcycles to a private team. This is our plan for the next two years. I think the priority is to prepare with the factory team and prepare to provide bikes to a second team. »

KTM thus confirms its massive commitment to Grands Prix. In addition to continuing to fight for the title in Moto3, the Mattighofen brand is launching this year simultaneously in Moto2 and MotoGP. There is therefore no doubt that the motivation, the will and the financial means are there!

Modeled on Suzuki which took two years to reach the top “I always tell my colleagues that the reference is Suzuki, who did an excellent job”, the boss of orange motorcycles knows well that with more original technical solutions (tubular steel frames, Screamer timing engine, engine rotating in the direction of the wheels, WP suspension) all available resources will be necessary to fight for victory .

It is with this aim of sharing data to accelerate its development that KTM is interested in joining a private team.

Conversely, which private team could be interested in collaborating with the Austrian factory?

Two names, currently in the fold of Ducati which supplies no less than eight machines on the grid, quickly come to mind: the Aspar team and the Avintia team.

But it is still too early to know how things will shape up and how Spanish working methods would combine with Austrian rigor...
