Removed in all categories last year due to Covid-19, wildcards were reinstated in the regulations during the Grand Prix Commission which met during the last Grand Prix in Portimão.

“Due to Covid-19 restrictions, wildcard entries were canceled in 2020. For 2021, wildcards will be permitted in all categories, with a maximum of two per category at each event. However, as was previously the case with Moto2 wildcards, Moto3 entries will only be considered if they are run by an existing Moto3 team. »

The last to have benefited from one in the premier category, Michele Pirro is the first to seize the opportunity, by announcing its participation in Mugello, Misano and Valencia, exactly the same program as in 2019 and 2017: at Ducati, we have more ideas!

Still in MotoGP, it is likely that Cal Crutchlow make at least one appearance, since this is Yamaha policy. Generally, this role is assigned to Katsuyuki Nakasuga in Japan, but, handicapped in its testing program last year due to the health crisis, the Iwata firm must move up a gear. See Cal Crutchlow on a racing M1 would therefore neither displease nor surprise us…

At Honda, the problem is completely different since the test driver, Stefan bradl, will more than likely be forced to compete in the first Grands Prix while awaiting the complete end of his convalescence. Marc Márquez.

See Sylvain Guintoli racing for Suzuki would be a respected tradition, but, for the moment, the men from Hamamatsu have not yet communicated on the subject. Last year, Davide Brivio had also pointed out that wildcard and personnel restriction in the paddock did not go well together…

While at Aprilia we have other fish to fry, since between Bradley Smith et Lorenzo Savadori we still don't know yet who will be the test pilot and who will be the official pilot, at least one thing is certain: Dani Pedrosa doesn't want to hear about racing anymore!

As a reminder, the last wildcard in MotoGP was therefore made by Michele Pirro in Valencia in 2019. In Moto2, following the removal of wildcards in 2019 due to the introduction of the Triumph engine, this dates back to Aragón 2018 with Edgar Pons et Sheridan Morais, while in Moto3, Xavier Artigas et Carlos Tatay were the lucky ones elected during the Grand Prix in Valencia in 2019.
