Just one day after his triple tibia-fibula-femur fracture and his operation, the Spanish pilot took his first steps in hospital.
This was the highlight of the weekend. During the final minutes of FP4 MotoGP, the rain intensified on the Silverstone track, and several riders aquaplaned in the same place. Among them, Tito Rabat did not have time to get out of the gravel trap and was mowed down by Franco Morbidelli's motorcycle which fell a few seconds after him. Hit head-on by the machine, the Spaniard immediately held his leg and remained on the ground for very long minutes, surrounded by doctors and track marshals who took time to evacuate him.
From the beginning, a triple fracture of the tibia-fibula-femur was suspected, and this was confirmed a little later by medical examinations. Helicoptered to the nearest hospital, Rabat was operated on in the hours that followed, and fortunately everything went well, as his team indicated on Saturday evening: “Tito Rabat underwent successful surgery on his right fibula, tibia and femur at Coventry University Hospital. He will remain under observation until tomorrow. »
Yesterday, the Avintia pilot took his first steps in hospital using a walker, a sign that the operation worked well. Unfortunately, his recovery will be long, because while pilots often recover fairly quickly from a tibia-fibula fracture, that of the femur requires more time. Sky posted some photos on social media, and these give hope for Rabat. He will be transferred as quickly as possible to the Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona to be monitored by the Championship doctors.
With the cancellation of three races yesterday, Esteve Rabat was the only victim of the chaos at Silverstone, and is unfortunately paying a high price.
