Joan Mir is one of the few factory drivers whose future still remains uncertain. While the doors of KTM and Ducati have closed, several questions remain: the future of Alex Rins at Yamaha, the identity of Jorge Martin's teammate at Aprilia, who will probably be Marco Bezzecchi, and the decision that Mir regarding the renewal of his contract with Honda or a possible change of team.
Motorsport.com recently stated that Mir had extended his contract with HRC for two more seasons. However, its representative, Paco Sanchez, denied this information on crash.net, specifying that no agreement has yet been signed. Sanchez said: “ From the start of the season, Joan's priority was to extend her contract with HRC. Although the bike is not competitive at the moment, Joan doesn't like going out the back door. He loves to fight and help them develop a competitive bike. But we haven't signed any agreement yet. We are negotiating and I hope we can reach an agreement within the coming weeks »
Waiting, Joan mir still has many options for 2025. Currently, only 11 of 22 MotoGP riders have secured their place for that year. While the announcements loom between the events ofAssen andGermany, the transfer market is far from being fixed, and Joan mir could benefit from it.
Joan Mir has fewer options than it seems for 2025
On the side of Ducati, the satellite teams have not yet confirmed their drivers. We know that Fermin Aldeguer will join one of these teams in 2025, but which one remains to be determined. Gresini, VR46 and PRAMAC Racing are all looking for drivers for the next season, with the latter waiting to find out if it will run with Ducati to Yamaha before finalizing his duet.
For Mir, two main options seem to emerge if he wants to stay with a factory team. Aprilia has not yet formalized its duo for 2025, but rumors persist regarding the probable arrival of Marco Bezzecchi next to George Martin. Yamaha , meanwhile, has not finalized its team for 2025 either. fabio quartararo is confirmed, but the future ofalex rins remains uncertain. Yamaha could also consider recruiting a Moto2 rider like Alonso lopez, already anticipated in the past.
However, for Mir, leaving a Japanese factory in difficulty for another which is hardly any more does not make much sense. A duo Quartararo-Mir therefore seems unlikely.
As the season progresses, announcements and movements in the MotoGP paddock will become clearer around the next races, particularly at Assen and Germany. By July summer break, the future of Joan mir and several other drivers should become clearer.
