Maverick Vinales Germany

Forced to withdraw from Germany, Maverick Viñales is particularly frustrated after the pace he displayed in FP2 and Q1.

Maverick Vinales saw his German Grand Prix end prematurely after suffering a major high side at the very start of Q2. The Spanish driver had started his day well, finishing second in FP2, just a tenth behind Marc Márquez, and making it through Q1. While yesterday he seemed a little concerned about his lack of feeling, everything had been resolved and he could aim for a very good result in qualifying.

However, he got caught out on his flying lap at Turn 4 and went highside. Taken directly to the medical center, he was diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder, which was immediately reattached. Doctors also suspected a small fracture, which was confirmed at the nearest hospital a few hours later.

While he was de facto qualified 12th due to his absence from Q2, Casa Particular in Viñales had to cancel the sprint race and the rest of the weekend, as his injury required rest. A particularly frustrating situation for him, who felt he had a card to play today.

“I’m sore, of course, but I feel good overall. I’m really disappointed not to finish our weekend here and not to see what we could have achieved. We were really fast this morning, second in FP2, we went from Q1 to Q2, and I think we had a good chance of being on the front row, which was our goal. I know it’s going to happen, so we have to keep believing and pushing.”, did he declare.

For now, his participation in the Czech Grand Prix, which will be held next weekend in Brno, remains uncertain, as does that of his teammate Enea Bastianini. The latter did not take part in the German GP. due to an attack of appendicitisThe Tech3 team therefore finds itself in an unusual situation, without a driver to compete in both races.

"Unbelievable bad luck", lamented Nicolas Goyon, the team manager. "We wish them a speedy recovery and hope to see them back with us as soon as possible."
