George Martin

Jorge Martín finished the first part of the season at the top of the MotoGP championship, but knows he is under threat given his current performances.

After an excellent start to the season, Jorge Martin has lost momentum in recent Grands Prix, and the German Grand Prix was no exception. While he didn't finish far down the standings and still achieved some good results, he no longer displayed the same speed and only reached the podium once in six races.

This Sunday, he secured a top-five finish after starting from seventh position, but he also benefited from two crashes ahead of him. Finishing behind the two Trackhouse team riders, he admits he's not currently at his best.

“It was a solid weekend. It’s always important to cross the finish line, and I scored as many points as I could. The race was tough, and I gave it my all. I wanted to keep Pecco behind me, and it played out a bit like in 2024. I tried to avoid crashing and not repeat past mistakes. However, I was far behind the leaders and the other Aprilias. In a way, that’s positive because it means our bike is working, but it also means there’s something we don’t fully understand yet, and we’ll have to work on it during this break to come back stronger.”, did he declare.

“From the first lap, I tried to manage the tires. The front was a little better, but the rear was completely worn out; I had no grip left. I think I was competitive for the first 12 laps, but then the tires started to degrade. We need to understand why. I'm not even tired; I could have done another 30 laps because I wasn't pushing it, I just did what the bike allowed. I see that the other riders have more stable setups. We've been constantly trying to adapt mine to the different circuits, and maybe that's not the right approach with the Aprilia. We're going to work hard this summer.”

George Martin

He regained the top spot in the championship following Marco Bezzecchi's mistakes, Martín He's sounding the alarm and doesn't see himself retaining first place if nothing changes. However, he's starting the summer break on a positive note and can appreciate how far he's come since his disastrous 2025 season.

“I had an excellent first half of the season and I’m delighted to be leading the championship. It’s always a fantastic feeling. But right now I need to get my speed back because if I keep racing like this, I won’t stay in the lead for long.”, he added.

“I know I can do better. In the first few races of the season, I had a lot of confidence, but I lost a bit of speed in the last few. We need to carefully analyze what happened and perhaps go back to this bike, which I felt more comfortable with. Overall, I’m happy. In January, I would have signed up to be in this position.”
