There was no sign of encouragement or signs of improvement for Johann Zarco before ending this first part of the season at KTM in a German Grand Prix which came to an end. The race at Sachsenring only lasted two laps before a crash at turn 3. The summer break is more than welcome for the French who was, in addition, subject to a cold...
qualified 19e, Johann zarco was still raised 15e before losing control of his RC16. An accident of which another rider on KTM was also the victim, in this case Miguel Oliveira. His voice extinguished by a cold, the double Moto2 World Champion commented on his short performance: “ The start was pretty good. But the bike was sliding a lot. I had hoped that the cooler conditions might give me a little more consistency in the race. I tried not to make any mistakes. Maybe it was just too much lean in turn 3. I don't know, but I bent the front wheel. I think Oliveira did the same thing a round earlier. That was probably the limit ».
That being said, Johann zarco recognizes that his situation is such at KTM that it is not this abandonment that will change much in his fate: “ too bad, because I was already in the points, that was the goal. I think I could have kept up this pace for the entire race. With everything I'm going through at the moment, a good or bad race before summer vacation isn't a big deal. I know exactly what I'm going to do during the break and I definitely have the motivation to come back to Brno in good shape ».
Some drivers complained that the track was extremely slippery after the rain. zarco confirms: “ at the start of the race it was not possible to control the bike on the brakes. Our situation after the halfway mark might have been better, but I didn't get that far. I couldn't control the front wheel slippage ».
zarco admits : " I've been able to think about a lot of things these last seven months. But the summer break will be the time to push myself to new heights and get stronger. Even if I can't ride faster, I want to become stronger as a person and control the situation much better ».
The Frenchman has only scored 16 points in the first nine races of the 2019 season, he is in 17th place in the provisional general championship standings. His teammate Pol Espargaro, finished in twelfth place this German Grand Prix.
