The Ducatista interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport. “What's wrong with Vinales and Rossi? »

“A few hours before the start of the last winter tests in Losail (Qatar), Andrea Dovizioso spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The full-page interview with Paolo Ianieri contains some very interesting observations. Here is a brief excerpt. The full version of the newspaper is on newsstands on Thursday March 1st. »

Can Zarco really challenge for the title?

“What does he have less than Rossi and Viñales? I think, very little. He will not have an identical motorcycle but very similar. So I don't think he's missing much. Johann is strong, he drives well, he is a racing beast. For me, he is there.”

On the contrary, you seem more and more at ease, totally calm...

" Yes. We know the reason why we were so strong, I don't worry about being able to do it again. We started at the same level. The bike has improved, I am calm knowing what I have under the saddle and what to do with it. I don’t think that’s enough to play for the title, but in the meantime, we’re here.”

You are Ducati insurance, Petrucci is doing well, Miller is surprising, Lorenzo on the contrary…

“Petrucci started well, like last year, but calm. Lorenzo still doesn't have the bike in his hands, there are moments when he is particularly strong, and others where he loses direction a little. Conversely, Miller, as I expected, works well and confirms his talent. He has the euphoria and the need to ride hard because of his change of cap, and that gives you tenths, but he will have to confirm during the race.”

For Dovizioso, will starting to talk early about the future with Ducati contribute to peace of mind?

“I am calm, I am a market man. At Ducati level, I hope they will use their heads for contract strategy. In the past, this has not been the case much….in short! In my opinion, now is the time to do it. Although it’s not Christmas.”

A good shake was Tech3's farewell to Yamaha, who will race with KTM in 2019…

“If this thing happened before the season started, that means something happened that we don’t know about. It surprised me a lot, in that way.”

Yamaha loses a good team. And if it's true, as they keep saying, that as long as Rossi races he won't have his team in MotoGP, then...

“What you have in mind doesn't always happen, because when something unexpected happens, you have to find a way to adjust things.”
