Andrea Dovizioso feels that a generation is pushing him towards the exit...

Andrea Dovizioso has entered what he calls his gap year. Which means he's anything but a retiree. He does not consider that he has hung up his helmet, but that he has just put it aside, still in full view to be picked up as soon as a positive signal is given. The latter would be an involvement in a project that would appeal to him. In the meantime, he does motocross and even tests for the specialized press in this field. And he also knows that he is 34 years old, at a time when a new generation is asserting itself...

Andrea Dovizioso has put itself in reserve of a MotoGP who can call him at any time, he assures. But the three-time world vice-champion who rode for eight seasons with a team Ducati with which he settles accounts by targeting his most senior executive, Gigi Dall'Igna, is not fooled. He is well aware that time passes and that it passes very quickly in a category in memory of goldfish.

In an interview relayed by speedweek, the Italian makes this admission: “ we are in a generational change. For several years there have been a certain number of talents who have determined the championship. They were always the same, but now it changes because they get older. There are those who withdrawn and those who are a little too old. The regulations and tires change and it can have a huge impact on everything. Without these changes, the same drivers might still have been in the lead ».

Andrea Dovizioso: “I’m disappointed because I’m competitive”

He does not quote himself, but we can guess it in his comments which again refer to this tire change that he so vilified throughout last season. “ On the other hand, I'm of course disappointed because I feel particularly competitive » he specifies about his situation which he still provoked by breaking off his negotiations with Ducati in the middle of the Austrian Grand Prix… Which he then won.

But Dovi insists: “ if I had the chance to drive for some teams, I think I could fight for the championship as I have done in previous years. But that's how it works in motorcycle sport, everything is not in my hands and anything can happen ". Including the best with a reminder that could come from Honda, always concerned about the state of health of Marc Marquez : " I don't want to say anything about it. I want to see what they offer me. If they do. I have my ideas " finished Dovizioso, still convinced that he has the hand.
