MotoGP, the scene of a fierce aerodynamic war, saw Aprilia push the limits at the 2025 Jerez post-GP test, unveiling bold seat spoilers and a new swingarm. Inspired by Ducati, the Noale-based brand is looking to address its lack of rear stability, a key issue for its 2025 RS-GP.
As MotoGP became a rolling laboratory of aerodynamics, a new battleground emerged: the seat. After Ducati amazed the whole paddock with his first saddle spoilers, Aprilia hit back at the post-GP Jerez test with an even more radical interpretation.
Aprilia thus the wings come out… downwards… On the RS-GP 2025, the Noale firm has installed spoilers fixed to the rear of the seat, pointed downwards, where Ducati had extended them horizontally. Objective? To better channel the airflow towards the rear wheel, reduce the chronic instability of the RS GP, and provide more traction when exiting corners — one of the weak points of drivers Aprilia so far.
These elements have a major advantage: they are not subject to approval. Unlike fairings or front scoops, these rear fenders can be modified or removed at will, race after race.
A vital technical test for Aprilia
Last in the manufacturers' ranking, the brand Aprilia plays big. With George Martin injured, Noale is looking for a technical surge to stay in the leading group behind Ducati. The team therefore deployed an extensive testing program at Jerez, also including a new swingarm, mounted in particular by Marco Bezzecchi, who judged it “rather good”.
« The goal is to improve stability, what we have been working on all season ", confirmed the Italian driver.
The saddle spoiler is no longer a curiosity. Marc Marquez himself has alternated its use to Jerez, removing it for the sprint and putting it back on for the main race. This illustrates how much this new appendage is now a strategic element.
The question is no longer whether Yamaha, Honda ou KTM will follow, but when. The MotoGP 2025 may well become the era of saddle fins.
